Writers Wrap-around

Blend Architects was commissioned to undertake RIBA Stage 1-4 works for a large wrap-around extension to a Victorian terraced house in Kings Heath, Birmingham.

The brief for this project was to explore options to create an open plan kitchen dining area, utility and snug, all within a tight footprint. We explored ways to utilise the site's width by offering more space to the living areas. This ensured that all rooms within the new extension benefitted from views into the garden.

A continuous horizontal datum line wraps around the new extension and provides a clean break between two cladding materials of reclaimed red brick and timber cladding. The red brickwork below ensures a robust base, and the natural larch cladding above allows for a contemporary break between the existing house and the new extension.

The project is currently onsite and due for completion spring 2023.
