1890 House

West Bridgford, Nottingham

Blend Architects successfully obtained planning approval for a single-storey wrap-around extension and internal reconfiguration works across three floors to a period property in West Bridgford, Nottingham.

Our proposal was built on a strong narrative of two masses extending from the rear elevation and alternating in height, materiality, form and scale. This presented us with the opportunity to maintain flexibility with the scale of development and be considerate of several site constraints.

The rear brick elevation acts as a ‘book-end’ to a 10m long extension clad in a vertical arrangement of Scottish Larch timber. Due to the significant reduction in site levels, the extension will sit on a base of reclaimed red brickwork, salvaged from the demolition of the existing kitchen.
